Elise Haraldr: ::she can't sleep, even her brothers' soothing snoring isn't helping, climbing out of her tent she moves to the firepit to stretch her hands to its glowing warmth, her hair unbound from its usual braid catches the breeze across her sleepy face as she stands before the flames, she smiles at the guard tending the fire, but she's not really in the mood for conversation with him::
Lady Kessa: Languidly pouring herself from the interior of the wagon, stretching and arching to rid her frame of the last kinks, she pulled the heavy robe closer round her, wearing three of the five veils she'd brought to wear once they'd reached the Sardar. Deep hazels cast about until she spotted Elise, walking across the open space toward her. "Tal, Lady." Her voice still slightly husked with sleep as it filtered through the layers. "You are up early." A smile unseen, but the tone implied only a merry humor.
Elise Haraldr: ::she turns to smile at the Lady, her own face bare of veils, she doesn't own any true veils, only the light wool scarf her mother made for her which she can pull across her face while at the Faire, she shrugs at the Lady's comment :: I'm too excited or too tired to sleep ::she cants her head and looks at her:: you're up early as well ::eyes glance at the bulge of her belly:: is the baby awake and keeping you up?
Lady Kessa: "Franz is a good man, but tends to sprawl." She chuckled gently as she worked the lid off the water barrel to dipper out a cup and work the task of remembering how she'd drank the last time she'd come to the South as a free woman. She was the companion of the Administrator and so she had to look the part. She'd much more affection for her simple clothing she wore at home and the moment they were on The Keep, bound for Tyrsgaard to visit, she damn well would be in them again. She lowered the cup from under her veils and motioned with the dipper. "Would you care for some water, Lady?"
Elise Haraldr: ::she moves toward the water barrel, her arms wrapped around her arms hugging her blanket to her:: yes, thank you Lady ::she reaches for the ladle, pours herself a cup and replaces the ladle and lid on the barrel, contemplating veils Lady Kessa is wearing, she considers the difficulty of such simple things as eating and drinking with such hindrance:: I've never worn veils before, I'll have to watch you to see how to work them ::she smiles as she takes a drink from her cup::
Lady Kessa: "The trick is that you have to go slowly. "She set the cup about breast-bone height and with her free hand lifted them out to work the cup up under them, layer by layer until they were bunched at their hem against the inside of her elbow. You could see the cup under them, but nothing of her cheek or chin peeked. The cup, like an urt under a carpet, snuck down and out again. "I am more fond of the Northern dress. I wish it were as easy for women to keep their home's attire as the men do. I doubt you'll see many Torv's wearing tunics and no pants as they do in the South." She chuckled gently. "Though the idea is...amusing." She could not imagine Franz running about without his pants on.
Elise Haraldr: ::she watches carefully as Kessa shows her how to hold the veils while she is drinking, she shakes her head, wondering if she'll have the same kind of grace, a burst of laughter peals from her:: men don't wear pants in the south? ::she covers her mouth with her hands:: what do they wear on their .. um ... surely they keep their ... uh ... you know, covered, yes?
Lady Kessa: She shook her head. "No, they wear long tunics and sandals... robes sometimes if their caste demands it." Shrugging she shook her head. "They don't. It's .. free in the breeze. But..you must know it's not nearly so cold in most places as it is in the North." Stepping over to a crate she perched atop it and rested her cup on her lap. "Nor are they as tall as Torvaldsland men, so ... Kajira pray to be shorter." She winked over her veil and then looked off toward the mountains, still a darker shade upon the pre-dawn horizon.
Elise Haraldr: ::she tries to think of what her captors were wearing, but she didn't really notice their clothing, she shrugs at the thought and considers the favored clothing of men of the south, she has five brothers, so she's well aware of men's sensitivity in the nether regions of their bodies, even if she herself hadn't had any first hand experience with it, again she shakes her head:: it seems to me that men in the south must be very vulnerable ... ? ::she turns raised eyebrows to Kessa, hoping she'll understand her meaning::
Lady Kessa: "Many are. They dress to imitate the strongest men of the world." She glanced back to the wagon and then warmed under her veils, a clearing of her throat tasting of her suppressed giggle. "No doubt you'll see all sorts of dress at the Sardar. When I was ... " she almost said 'a slave' "younger.... I traveled very much and I saw all sorts of people."
Elise Haraldr: ::she settles herself comfortably in the grass beside the crate and takes a drink from her cup before leaning against the crate and looking up at Kessa, her eyes growing sleepy:: where all have you been?
Lady Kessa: "I've been to Ar and Schendi. I've traveled the length of the Vosk, to the Sardar at En'Kara... And, of course." She sneered, the tone making it obvious. "Port Kar." Shuddering with a wave of disgust, it was plain how she felt about that city. "It was in Port Kar that Franz got the wardenship of Fehu Isa, and we moved North ,and found our happiness and, I belive, a greater purpose." She took another sip of water if just to banish the lingering taste of Port Kar from her mouth.
Elise Haraldr: ::slowly she nods her head, even in her sheltered innocence she had heard of the evils of Port Kar, the other places sound fascinating to her:: what is Ar like? I've heard it's a tremendous city
Lady Kessa: "Ar is ... like another world. It is so large, so populated that you can walk from dawn to dusk and never see the same building twice. So many people coming and going, spilling out to the outer areas. Waterfalls and springs, the fresh air needed in such a populated place. Even on the walkways, it is hard to be alone. One I knew used to jest that in Ar, there were three men to each tunic and slaves went naked because there wasn't enough silkworms in the world to do the work to cover them."
Elise Haraldr: ::she gives a light chuckle interrupted by a huge yawn that seems to split her face, belatedly she remembers to put her hands to her open maw and blinks back the yawn tears:: oh, excuse me, I must be more tired than I thought
Lady Kessa: She nodded. "I understand. Sleep, Lady Elise. It'll be time to pull out soon enough and we'll be on our way. Nearly impossible to sleep while bouncing over the ruts." She'd rise and bow her head. "Dream of sweet things."
Elise Haraldr: ::she stumbles to her feet and returns the cup to the water barrel, gripping her blanket around her she smiles sleepily at Kessa:: sweet rest to you too Lady, if you get back to your furs ::she turns toward her tent where her brothers are raising a snoring ruckus and disappears inside::
