KyrstenErikdotir: ::waves to Kessa and walks over to join her:: Tal.
Lady Kessa: "Ah. Good." She was glad for that comfort at least. "Your sons do your family great honor, Lady Kyrsten!" She called down to her as Franz no doubt was off to stomp his bow into toothpicks.
KyrstenErikdotir: : So I see. It is good that they have practiced so much.
Lady Kessa: "Tal ,Lady. " She blushed a bit having not meant to yell when the woman was closer than she'd first judged. "There was worry which would emerge as the winner... but it was obvious your sons would be the men to beat." She smiled. "I think the bondmaids are cavorting in the main hall, so if the Sirs would wish to go watch them be silly... they're more than welcome." She knew that watching the slaves race with spoons and eggs in their mouths was hardly high theater.
KyrstenErikdotir: : Do you know how the others have been doing? They must take turns on the farm work, of course.
Lady Kessa: "I saw your girl Inga today, she has been a great help. She came with one of the elder boys... Galen I think. I admit to being sometimes lost over so many fine men from your line."
KyrstenErikdotir: : ::shakes her head as her sons hastily excuse themselves and head for the hall:: Men will watch a bond-maid do nearly anything if they have the time.
Acheron Sinis: Ahhhh...Inga...What a tasty girl she was.He smiled as he listened....He looked around to the other patting well doers to their backs. Some walking off to enjoy more of the festivities.
KyrstenErikdotir: : She is a good worker and has strong legs to follow the herds. ::which is what matters to her, if not to her menfolk::
Acheron Sinis: She sure did have strong legs...mmhmmm.
Lady Kessa: She chuckled as they adjourned themselves quickly, suspecting it would be the case. "Will you be participating in the ladies event?" She motioned toward the archery range as the thralls pulled the arrows free from the targets and touched up the paint here and there to hide the holes on the targets.
KyrstenErikdotir: Those which the work of the farm does not prevent me from attending, yes.
Lady Kessa: "Wonderful. I have been practicing, but I have been keeping my bow near Franz's so perhaps Loki had his wicked hands on mine as well and in that case... the safest place to stand will be in front of the target." Grinning as her hands rested over her slightly rounded belly, scanning the open stalls of merchants, a few, not so many as they'd see next hand, but it was enough to catch some business for them.
KyrstenErikdotir: We shall see. ::smiles:: So when is our competition to be?
Lady Kessa: She smiled and rolled her eyes faintly. "In a few ehn. Once the men are distracted in the hall by watching the bondmaids, they'll not notice we're gone and won't feel obliged to give us pointers." She knew that Franz would do so telling her to keep her elbow up or compensate for the wind or the like. It made her nervous.
KyrstenErikdotir: Well, naturally we can't be as good as they are. ::winks at her::
Lady Kessa: She leaned in. "Today... I believe it possible to be as good as Franz. I'll close my eyes." She set her finger on her lips and peeked back to see if Papo had overheard her.
KyrstenErikdotir: ::chuckles softly and unslings her bow, checking to be certain the string is still dry::
Lady Kessa: She had left hers in the hall, so she snagged a passing thrall and sent him to go get Sweetness to bring it to her. She didn't trust any ham-handed thrall with her bow. There were a few ladies drifting toward the range with similar intentions. Sweetness had not won, it seemed, since she was hasty in bringing the bow, but she was breathless and without need of explanation, she shooed her back, the green wood cradled in her hand and she could use Franz's arrows from where they'd been returned to.
KyrstenErikdotir: ::after checking her bow, she checks the arrows in the quiver slung on her hip::
Lady Kessa: The dirt tapped off the iron tipped target point, smiling to imagine the wayward thrall who'd had to have one pulled out of his backside. He was probably glad they were not hunting points. She nodded to the lady beside her, who if she recognized her, was Bela, the woman of one of the big logging men from the forest. She had a slight look of the wild to her, and Kessa was a bit fearful that there might even be history as a panther in the woman's background She knew enough about them to know that archery wasn't a skill, it was life.
KyrstenErikdotir: ::takes her place between Kessa and another woman she doesn't recognize at all, one who seems almost too petite for the bow she holds::
Acheron Sinis: Papo had remained silent as he leaned to the post of the awning shelter.
Lady Kessa: There were only three arrows, so they had to make them count. She lifted her bow, sighting it in, trying not to think about how the woman beside her would do. She'd shoot off her arrow just a hair slower than Bela did.
OnlineHost: Lady Kessa rolled 2 10-sided dice: 10 10
Acheron Sinis: He blinked as he saw that shot..
Lady Kessa: She blinked too, then looked over at Bela with a small smirk. "Good shot." She said quietly, both seeming a bit surprised at the other's hit as well as their own. Glancing over to the petite woman and Kyrsten, hoping that the wind was as favorable for them.
KyrstenErikdotir: ::lifts her bow and nocks her arrow, as does the woman beside her, taking aim at the center and letting fly::
OnlineHost: KyrstenErikdotir rolled 2 10-sided dice: 6 6
Scoreboard: Bela- 10 / Kessa -10 / Kyrsten - 6 / Shorty - 6
Acheron Sinis: The women did much better then the men...Papo was impressed.
Lady Kessa: The arrows all hit, and though it was strangely afixed by coupling of points, it would likely split here with the next shot. Kessa was more nervous doing well than she'd have been if she was doing poorly. Lifting the bow into position as she drew back, fingers near her ear, waiting for the proper feeling moment to let the arrow fly, hearing the twang almost at the same moment from beside her.
OnlineHost: Lady Kessa rolled 2 10-sided dice: 5 6
KyrstenErikdotir: ::takes out her next arrow and checks the fletching, then nocks it, drawing back her bow as the petite woman beside her does the same and lets fly once more::
OnlineHost: KyrstenErikdotir rolled 2 10-sided dice: 4 8
Scoreboard: Bela- 15 / Kessa -16 / Kyrsten - 10 / Shorty - 14
KyrstenErikdotir: ::mutters and checks to see if her bowstring has frayed since she last inspected it::
Lady Kessa: She smiled over at Kyrsten. "I am so glad the men can't see this." She chuckled gently and pulled her other arrow free of the ground, the last shot, which would seal things up one way or the other. Brushing off the dirt from the end as she looked up toward where Papo was watching. He wasn't a man, in the sense that he was keeping out of telling them how to shoot. Once more, the tight hum of the strings pulled back sounded, stilled, and then was unleashed with force to send the black temwood arrow with yellow fletching toward the target.
OnlineHost: Lady Kessa rolled 4 10-sided dice: 10 8
Acheron Sinis: Papo rarely interfered in the lives of others. The only time he gave advice was when asked...Or if he felt the need to offer...Mostly on a life and death scenario.
KyrstenErikdotir: ::pulls her third arrow from the quiver as the woman next to her prepares to shoot, setting nock to string and drawing it back...takes a breath, holds it, gauges the wind, and fires::
OnlineHost: KyrstenErikdotir rolled 2 10-sided dice: 2 3
Scoreboard: Bela- 25 / Kessa -24 / Kyrsten - 12 / Shorty - 17
KyrstenErikdotir: ::applauds the winner politely::
Lady Kessa: She smiled and offered out her hand to the winning woman, and the woodsman's woman would recieve the heavy sleen fur cloak lined for softness and hooded for warmth. Joining in the applause, she strolled over toward Kyrsten again.
Acheron Sinis: He smiled as he pounded to his shoulder in applause.."Well done."
Lady Kessa: "I do not think I will tell Franz anything more than that I lost." She flashed a smile toward Papo. "You should say so, you helped build this for your companion and I to have something to do with ourselves other than sew and gossip."
Acheron Sinis: He chuckled..
Lady Kessa: "And if I may include her, we're very grateful you did." Her bow cradled against her. "I will blame my center of gravity for being off kilter for my loss and no doubt Franz will be filled with sympathy and buy me something pretty."She gave a slight wink toward Kyrsten as she worked to subdue her grin. If you knew her, she wasn't the sort to bribe presents usually.
Acheron Sinis: And spoil his fun rubbing salt into an injury...Oh hell no, he thought. He gave that smile that spoke the bedevilment of his true intentions.
Lady Kessa: She gave Papo a look that read completely his angle if not his whole thought. She knew that look meant he was thinking of something evil and that was hardly ever a good thing. "I may trust you, Papo, to not be hard on Franz for...subduing his usual brilliance for the sake of bringing amusement to the crowd, yes?"
Acheron Sinis: He smiled.."I assure you...Anything I say to him...Will never be in front of others to belittle him.."
KyrstenErikdotir: ::still muttering to herself, she excuses herself and heads back to her home to have one of her sons go over her bow and arrows with her::
Acheron Sinis: He would have his own private little amusements. All the more reason to egg him more now on the importance of added training from him.
Lady Kessa: "Good man." She shivered and set her steps back toward the hall, pretty sure the bondmaids would have finished their silly contest by now. "If you do, I'll persuade Franz to put Comfort in Gederlaug for a hand." She was only teasing him. She wouldn't, that would punish the girl and she'd done nothing. -d
Acheron Sinis: He smiled as he followed her in silence. Still providing escort to her back to the Hall.
Lady Kessa: "Ah. Good." She was glad for that comfort at least. "Your sons do your family great honor, Lady Kyrsten!" She called down to her as Franz no doubt was off to stomp his bow into toothpicks.
